By Keith Walsh
‘Agitprop’ has never been an unwanted genre for me. Music and literature that motivates people to take action against the multitude of injustices is always welcome and necessary.

PINK TURNS BLUE were founded in 1985, and are considered progenitors of darkwave. Their current lineup churns out fascinating melancholic pop, and features Mic Jogwer on guitar and vocals, Luke Sammuri on bass, and Paul Richter on drums. There’s some nice synth work on their tunes as well, such as the irresistible bass on “Lovers Forever,” on their “Tainted – Tour 2022 EP” coming September 2. The songs are based on newly completed pieces from last year’s Tainted LP, that didn’t make it on the album.

Their new single “Not Gonna Take It’ calls on us to stand up against war and those who engineer it, and like the sounds on the Tainted LP the songwriting, performances and musicianship are immaculate. The passion of the lyrics shines through, and like good agitprop, the intent is to challenge us to make the world a better place, through actions in art, in protest and at the ballot box as well as on the interpersonal level, and while slightly jaded never gives into full-on pessimism.

These legends have released 12 full length LPs, so those of you discovering PINK TURNS BLUE for the first time have a lot of pleasurable listening ahead. Look for them as they tour Europe and the U.S. soon. Dates below:
