From the most grass roots musical projects to top ten radio, the world needs anti-war anthems now more than ever. The exciting sounds of London Plane’s new single “Bright Black” strides the thin line between commerciality and raw performance, with relentless drums, throbbing bass and shimmering guitar, and a vocal message railing against military action.

“Bright Black” is the third single from London Plane’s forthcoming second album, also titled Bright Black, and if this and the previous two singles are any indication, it’s an album shining light on both the powerful and the marginalized in society. “Watch That Madman Go” lambasts the work of dictators, while “Francesca” was inspired by the diary of an impoverished immigrant to New York City, the city which spawned London Plane. And despite their American origins, the European influences are quite evident.

Everything about London Plane is wonderfully commercial in the most authentic ways. Meeting at the intersection between commerciality and darkly melodic goth, their sound features tons of catchy beats and grooves. Passionate performances from the entire band, not the least of which are the vocal performances by David Mosey and Jessica Cole, create a mix that makes you want to dance while contemplating the failings of the 21st century world. There are heavy goth vibes, in the more commercial sense of Siouxsie And The Banshees, Bauhaus, Peter Murphy and Sisters Of Mercy, and there’s no skimping on memorable riffs and beats amidst the theatrical darkness.

“Bright Black” features vocals by David Mosey and Jessica Cole, with Bryan Garbe on drums, Grant Parker on bass, Julian Tulip on synths, and Kristofer Widholm and Mosey on guitars. As of today, London Plane are on my list as leading the pack of rock bands who comment on the human condition.
